update 56 introduced heavy gpu usage and tear on scrolling (again)
after updating to 56 firefox now uses massive amount of gpu power, doing nothing. (casual/usual browsing as before)
Even with hardware acceleration turned OFF, and webgl disabled in about config etc.
so far i've seen gpu spikes to 48% usage on max clock speed, (making gaming bloody impossible now with firefox open) and up to 20% usage, WHILE IDLING.... only in firefox, -random sites (ofc youtube/media content playing sites causes heavier loads than others)
oh and screen tear is back when scrolling now... sigh
i reverted back to 54 after 55 because that introduced other slight annoying minor issues, but reverting back now from 56 fixes absolutely nothing....
tried various gpu drivers too(clean install), no effect/changes, also tried full uninstall of firefox, didn't help either
- -win 7 64-bit,
- -firefox 56, 64-bit,
- -gtx 960 (drivers: 327.23 - 347.25 - 358.50 - 362.00 - 378.66 - 382.05 - 384.94 - 385.69),
- -i7 6700k,
- -32gb ram,
side note, while turning hardware acceleration off doesn't help much on reducing gpu load, it does (at times) reduce cpu load 5-10% doing the same tasks (at times),
so seems hardware acceleration cranks both gpu and cpu now at the same time, doing the same task as before(but without any performance/quality improvement difference that would make the extra resource usage make sense), on my system after update 56
i'm hoping for something that helps
or an update that eventually ("soon'ish") fixes it... cos i'm starting to get tired of these snafus with firefox all the time now lately... ....inc chrome... :´(

nvm just found stream buffering is still fckd in 56 too, which was the main reason i discarded 55 and went back to 54 i'm done trying with firefox, no amount of fiddling or patience makes this worth it. easier to just switch browser to one that doesn't break something every tuesday
thx for reply tho, sry to have wasted your time, but i'm done with firefox for a while

I'm close to being the same. Thinking I'll just go to Edge. Tired of my browser behavior changing from bad to worse.
