I can't type in the URL box, my cursor defaults to a text cursor rather than an arrow so I can't actually click on anything. I've resorted to using Safari.

Don't you get a cursor in the location/address bar if you click anywhere in the location bar?

Try to open a new window to see if the location/address bar works in that new window.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window
