Firefox windows won't close, have to close entire program.
Anytime I open a new Firefox window or want to close Firefox itself the little red X does nothing. I can close tabs, but not windows. I just reinstalled the 64 bit version 55.0.2 on Win 7 Home Premium. Been happening for the last 2 days or so.
Chosen solution
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
- switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
- do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Close it by Menu > File > Exit.
That doesn't work either (sorry for not saying I'd tried that). The only thing with works is going into task manager and closing the application itself.

It ended up being Tab Mix Plus, thanks.
Same here, Tab Mix Plus is the offending item; however, on my machine, if I close ALL the tabs, then the red X works :¬)
Try to install the latest dev version of Tab Mix Plus.
