Thunderbird no longer prompts me for my password but automatically starts to download my emails. How can I get it to request my password first?

That is what happens when you tell Thunderbird to remember your password and enter it for you.

Go to... Options-Security-Passwords-Saved Passwords and delete the saved passwords.
