How do I eliminate the search suggestions offer in my login box?

more options

Since Firefox 52, login boxes on web sites don't show my username. They show "Would you like to improve your search experience with suggestions?" with Yes and No buttons. I have to type in my username, and then Firefox retrieves my saved password. I can't find where to eliminate this junk, and the No button does not function, perhaps because of my security settings. I just want to find where I can flip a switch to avoid getting this question ever being asked. I've got the search suggestions turned off in options, but it doesn't help.

Thanks for trying to help. It appears the problem must have been a problem generated by the interaction of Blur, NoScript, Classic Theme Restorer, and Firefox. It appeared with Firefox 52, or perhaps a slightly earlier version.

I checked NoScript and Classic Theme Restorer a few times for updates since the problem appeared, and installed updates when they appeared. Apparently they came up with updates since I gave up on them possibly being the cause of the problem, and providing a fix.

I installed the updates, disabled Blur, restarted Firefox, enabled Blur, and the problem has disappeared. Because I did it all at once, I don't know what the cause of the problem was, but at least it's fixed.

Thanks to Fiz for pointing me at the extensions. I hadn't really suspected them for interacting with userid and password boxes, and for placing a Firefox option question there. I'm a somewhat savvy user, but don't know how it works behind the curtain. I haven't done programming since Fortran and a bit of ECAP.

Firefox provides the ability for searches to provide suggestions. This option can be disabled. However, based on your explanation, it sounds like this behavior is happening within the username field on a website. To my knowledge, Firefox does not do this.

Info regarding how and where Firefox uses search suggestions: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/use-popular-search-suggestions-firefox-search-bar

Suggestion: Try launching Firefox in 'Safe Mode' to determine if one of your extensions are responsible for this behavior.

Safe Mode is a special Firefox mode that can be used to troubleshoot and fix problems. Safe Mode temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes) that might be causing problems. By comparing Firefox behavior in normal mode to its behavior in Safe Mode you may be able to pinpoint the cause of the problem.

How to launch Firefox in Safe Mode: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode#w_how-to-start-firefox-in-safe-mode

If this issue is not present in Safe Mode, it's most likely because of an extension.

I'm a little baffled that a search suggestions prompt would appear on a user name or password field. What do those have to do with searching???

Do you notice any difference between HTTPS pages (green lock) and HTTP pages (no lock or slashed lock), or do both exhibit this strange behavior?
