Hello,

I have Firefox 53 on a Surface Pro 3.

Say I am looking at images on Google, like pictures of trees. I discover a picture of a tree that I find interesting. I want to download that image. I touch the screen once, I get a bigger version of the picture. I touch the screen and hold it to bring up the menu that will allow me to "Save Image As...". When I do this, the image becomes highlighted in blue, and a small, round, blue pointer appears by the image.

I don't like this and I want to get rid of it. Firefox did not used to do this for me prior to Version 52.

Surface Pro 3 does not have a print screen button or I would try to post a picture.

I know it can be disabled because there used to be a solution on this very website when the browser was still Firefox 52. I tried the solution and it worked. I bookmarked it a month or so ago. Now when I try to find that solution, this website says "Page Not Found" and has an angry yellow Lego man looking at me.

While I was trying to solve another problem with Firefox, I had reset all of the defaults or something, which brought the problem back. I have googled and googled and googled and cannot find anything even close to this problem. And of course, I cannot remember anything specific about what the solution was or who the problem poster and solver were.

The name of the solution I bookmarked (that is now gone) was:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/t5/Firefox/52-01-Win10-changed-touch-support-and-blue-teardrop-carats/m-p/1382390#M1042765

I have tried searching Google using different combinations of the terms in the above bookmark, with no luck.

I am a novice and not familiar with finding the secret programming menus and whatnot. I remember the solution involved getting into one of these out-of-the-way menus, clicking on something to do with (I think) touch support, and changing some value or something to "off" or "none" or something like that.

This only happens when I touch the screen, not when I use the selector pad thing that acts like a mouse. Sorry that I don't know the proper terminology for some of these things.

Can anyone help me out please?

Chosen solution

Sorry, there was a problem with the forum and it had to move off the Lithium hosting platform onto this older one temporarily. The missing information from that March thread was:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste caret and pause while the list is filtered, then if necessary, scroll down to the preferences starting with the word layout (text too small? zoom in)

(3) Double-click (double-tap?) the layout.accessiblecaret.enabled_on_touch preference to switch the value from true to false

(4) Double-click (double-tap?) the layout.accessiblecaret.use_long_tap_injector preference to switch the value from false to true

Is that the same issue you're having now?
