What is the source of "Earn stars. Get a gift. Check it out."?

Posted

What is the source of the notification I've seen several times lately that says "Earn stars. Get a gift. Check it out."?

Has anyone else seen this, whether you know the source of it or not?

I'm told by BW on the @Firefox that Mozilla would never send such a notice, but I don't believe him.

I think it's part of the "Browse Free Or Die" promotion that's run multiple times, which I've seen today and several times recently.

BW of @Firefox on Twitter says the Browse Free Or Die" promotion has ended, but I've seen the promo for it today, as well as recently.

The Browse Free Or Die promo is mentioned at http://www.ghacks.net/2016/10/17/mozillas-browse-free-or-die-problematic/ and at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1310479

BW of @Firefox said the notification does not come from Mozilla and must thus come from malware, and suggests a long and tedious process of hunting for and removing malware. I think they' are completely off base.

I can't find much of the text one sees in the Browse Free Or Die promo by googling, so I'm going to include the text here so others can find it..

Hi

I can confirm that this is a legitimate promotion, designed to give you a tour of Firefox and get a sticker for your machine (if you want).
