critical firefox update (scam website address)

Just wanted to relay the supposed address for this popup is https://oowiebest-directory-submission.org

Tried to trace and failed. Appears it may be a vulnerability with Windows 10 and Firefox..similar to what a fair amount of users experience with Edge but much more limited.

Experienced this 3 times in 2 weeks and I am fairly consistent in the sites I navigate. <10 on a daily basis, with 20+ hours/week activity, and the page will generally reroute to this Critical Update page while clicking on of these bookmarked sites.

For the last eight months, an epidemic of Fake Update Notices have been popping up all over the place. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/i-found-fake-firefox-update

hi, we suspect this is coming form "malvertising" (=ads placed on legitimate websites that redirect you to this fraudulent message), so using an adblocking addon like https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/ would also help with that.

Windows users (using Firefox) whether on WinXP SP2+SP3, Vista, 7, 8 (8.1), 10 have got this. It is sophisticated enough in targeting useragents that no Firefox user on Mac OSX or Linux has reported this fake urgent Firefox update page yet.

The sites they use are disposable as in only used for a day about. The same sites are being used by these scammers to target Google Chrome users on Windows also with a more plain fake urgent Chrome update page.

That must be what I got today, but didn't realize it was a scam. I thought it was funny that it didn't just automatically download, and while it was downloading, it was something I've never seen before. It showed a small box in the upper left corner, and it was digital looking. Very odd. When it was done downloading, I clicked on it twice, and a pop up said: firefox-patch (1).js is an executable file, and may contain viruses or other malicious code that could harm your computer. So I closed it out, and looked at my other downloads, because I remember this had happened once before in 2016. Sure enough, there it was! So now I have 2 of them in there. I have where it came from, but I don't think I'm supposed to put links up in here, so I will report it now to the Google Report Phishing Page. I hate it when this happens! Does anyone know if I should just delete them both now?
