When attempting to load Slacker today 12/13 (day of update) keep getting the dreaded infamous "Shockwave Flash may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the plugin now, or you can continue to see if the plugin will complete." error. So, I check the plugins, and sure enough, I have 2 versions of Flash, and one is brand new. I try to disable one, and it appears to work, but no music. So, I check to see if there's a browser update. Yep. Okay, let's update the entire browser. Problem gone? Nope. Hmm. Let's try setting the old version to 'ask' and let the new version always run. Refresh Slacker, and it just asks, and asks, and asks, even when I set it to 'remember'. Well, that's not working. So, let's switch it around - what's this? They're both set to 'ask'. Huh. Ok... Let's see if we can get rid of the old 23 version. I go into C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash and find the .dll for 23, and that is the only file there for it. Rename it to .old, go back, restart FF, reload Slacker, 23 is gone, still no streaming. No popup, no lock, no music either. Seems like Slacker doesn't like the 24 version, won't run on it, but the update took out the majority of 23. As long as the 23 .dll is in place, there's a conflict that causes a lock, so I can't just put 23 back on and run both.

    • Update** It turns out that this issue is impacting quite a few websites that I frequent, making FF virtually unusable for me.

Suggestions?

So apparently just renaming the .dll for 23 and restarting FF wasn't enough. I had to rename it and completely reboot my system. As I said in my original post, the update to 24 removed all other traces of 23, only leaving behind the .dll. I'm not one for unnecessary reboots when I have a stable system, and it's not uncommon for my system to go months without a reboot. That's why I really hate auto-updates, but nowadays some things update so ridiculously fast that I got tired of things breaking because plugins were disabled because they were out-of-date.

Thanks for the response and the links to the uninstaller. That will probably save me some hair-pulling in the future.

Having more than one version of a program may cause issues. You must remove the older programs. Then get the current full installer.

Flash: Grab the uninstaller from here: Uninstall Flash Player | Windows Uninstall Flash Player | Mac

Then reinstall the latest version.

Note: Windows users should download the active_x for Internet Explorer. and the plugin for Plugin-based browsers (like Firefox).

Note: Windows 8 and Windows 10 have built-in flash players and Adobe will cause a conflict. Install the plugin only. Not the active_x.

Flash Player Version: 23.0.0. 207 Flash Player (Linux) Version 11.2. 202.644

https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ Direct link scans current system and browser Note: Other software is offered in the download. <Windows Only>

https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/ Step 1: Select Operating System Step 2: Select A Version (Firefox, Win IE . . . .) Note: Other software is offered in the download. <Windows Only>

James I noticed the update on another user's system Detail. But when I downloaded the installer, it gave me 'wrong version' errors. So I will wait ant try again.

Many programs can be updated without rebooting. But some of the more sophisticated do require one.
