Firefox gets JavaScript hijacked on this mspchelps.com

I thought these time of hijacking attempts were solved years ago, but apparently they're still possible on Firefox 50.

This is the link: mspchelps.com/windows-error/

Is there a simple way to close the offending tab?

Thanks for the report.

I will make the link in your post none clickable. I note it offers advice if you phone +1-888-217-2106 please Do NOT phone that number. It may however be a useful number to use as a search key when looking for info on such scams.

I can close that tab by merely clicking on its [x] in the tab at the top of the browser. It is already blocked by my Internet Service Provider, unless I turn off their blocking.

Presumably it is some other site that directed you to that one. I am not sure the page itself contains malicious code, other than the message and audio message about the computer being blocked.

Ahhh, I have disabled the x on tabs in order to maximize space. I close tabs by middle-clicking on them and that doesn't seem to work on such offending tabs.

Middle-clicking worked for me. Also Ctrl+w worked.

If you click the OK button on the alert popup, it reappears within a short time and you should see a new checkbox near the bottom to prevent the site from doing it again. (See attached screenshot.) Check that box and click OK and you should not see that alert again, in case that is necessary to close the tab.

Unfortunately, when I click on the x of the popup, it reappears instantaneously and I have no way to click on the checkbox.

It sounds like you're describing a different dialog than the one I got. As shown in my screen shot, there's no X to close it, just the OK button. Those are on a timer, so as you close them, more will open, until you use the checkbox to disable more from opening. (Or I think Firefox might have an automatic 20 alert maximum.)
