I don't care that firefox thinks this is outdated and needs updating. how do I disable this from messing with flash? I just want to use it and I really could care less if some hypothetical vulnerability exists that has nothing to do with me.

Have you checked to see if  Adobe Flash Player   is up to date   ?
You can do that by going to  Windows Control Panel,  click on  Flash,  which will open  Flash Player Settings Manager > Updates.
The latest version is:   23.0.0.207
