How do I stop the "Downloads Complete" pop-up?
I download a lot of pictures. After every picture I save, I get a damn popup message saying "Download Complete". It doesn't go away and it's in my way.
I've read other suggestions for stopping this by editing about:config, but they aren't working.
Is there any way to stop this, or am I going to have to go back to Firefox 42 AGAIN!
Chosen solution
When Firefox completes a download, it animates a blue arrow into the toolbar icon. There's no alert dialog.
What's you're seeing is a feature of the Downloads Window extension which is overriding normal Firefox behavior. To turn off the alert, go to the Add-ons page. Either:
- Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
- "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then on the right side, find Downloads Window and click the Options button. Scroll down and uncheck the box for "Alert when downloads complete".

That depends on if the message is from Firefox, or an add-on.
Firefox. If I was asking about an add-on I would have mentioned the add-on.

Did Windows sneak that in on me? I sure don't remember installing it.
Anyway, I disabled it. Thanks -- I would have never thought to look there.
It’s very sad, but many of the software downloaders / installers will trick you into installing not only their program, but other programs as well. You have heard of the fine print in shady contracts, right? Well, some installers you need to look at the itsy bitsy teeny weeny fine print. You are thinking you are giving the installer permission to install the program you want by using the recommended option. But if you use the Manual Option Instead, you discover all kinds of stuff that you do not even know what it is or what it does. From now on, everyone needs to Use The Manual Option to put a stop to this.
Actually, I just came back to say I _do_ remember adding this a few years ago. It's the add-on which gave me back the old style download window (not Windows download.) The stuff I was downloading was so small the window didn't stay on long enough to see.
I don't know why the downloads complete alert box stopped closing on its own -- but it had to be something Mozilla did since Firefox 42.
