Just updated the last PC in our office to Windows 10. Now we are no longer able to send any larger messages through Thunderbird (45.2.0). A small message in plain text will go through, but with slightly larger ones or those with an attachment we are getting a timeout:

"The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.xxxxxxxxx.nl timed out. Try again."

We are using F-Secure and tried mailing with all security software turned off. Network adapter and other drivers have been updated etc.

We had this same problem on a different PC also and had to hire someone who after a couple of hours fixed it. Cost a lot of money and he was not very happy about that solution either.

Any ideas? Thanks for your help!

Solution for other PC was changing the network adapter properties. In advanced settings he set "IPv4 Checksum Offload" to "Disabled". Glad I found my notes. Also changed these settings on this PC and now we can send larger messages again.

Thank you for sharing that.

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj130905%28v=wps.630%29.aspx says:

The Set-NetAdapterChecksumOffload cmdlet sets the state of the checksum offload properties. The network adapter computes the checksums, therefore reducing processor utilization because the processor is not performing this computation.

So it may be specific to particular NICs, or these days, certain mobo/chipset combinations.

It doesn't appear to be a risky or processing-intensive change.
