After an unintentional uninstall & supposedly successful restore, thunderbird won't open.

In trying to recover space on my computer, running Windows 7 Professional, I noticed that I had Mozilla Thunderbird version 3.0.4 and version 3.1.20. So I thought, I'll just uninstall the older version. Bad thought. Both were uninstalled, and my Email account disappeared. I went back to a restore point, and the "account" and the two versions reappeared, but Thunderbird won't open. Not even from the .exe. I'm afraid to reinstall. I'm afraid to wipe out my emails. Can anyone help me restore my account and recover my emails?

The Thunderbird program is kept entirely separate from Thunderbird Profile folder.

However, if you have not recently performed a backup then perhaps it is a good idea to create one. I would advise creating backups on a regular basis and storing them on eg: an external hardrive.

I would uninstall Thunderbird program via Control Panel > Programs & Features, then download a fresh version and install it.
