My Firefox is up to date. I am trying to use a second laptop. My other one is up to date and works fine. Using Windows XP on both. I can navigate to my various websites OK and they load. As soon as I sign in, I am presented with a blank page on every one of them. My email client works fine, even when that blank page is present, so my internet connection is OK. I have rebooted and cleared Firefox several times. I am confused.

Are you getting blank pages at all site, some, a few?

Start your Computer in safe mode with networking. Then start Firefox. Try Safe websites. Is the problem still there?

Are both systems having problems, or just one? Are you getting blank pages at all site, some, a few?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).

Is the problem still there?

Only on this computer. Tried it in safe mode and no difference.

Seems like there were two different users with the same name on my computer. Neither showed up when I booted up normally. When I booted up in safe mode it showed my name but as two users. I tried one and got the same results; tried the other and able to log in to my sites and they reacted normally. Still confused, but working.

Spoke too soon. Tried again, logged out of site, logged in and got same blank screen. Now I am more confused.

If I clear the cookies when I am on a blank screen after logging in, I can go back to the sign-in page by using my bookmark, can sign in, and then goes to a blank page. Happens on the four sites that I normally access daily.

As to the two users, it could be one is 'just a user' while the other is the administrator account.

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache.

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the cache and remove the cookies from websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).

"Clear the cache":

  • Firefox/Options/Preferences -> Advanced -> Network -> Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove the cookies" from websites that cause problems.

  • Firefox/Options/Preferences -> Privacy -> "Use custom settings for history" -> Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • Do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

No change. With cookies removed, I am able to navigate to any site, but the problem arises ONLY after I log in. I can remove the cookies and go back to the login page of all the various sites.

I AM able to log my online banking accounts.

When I log into the other accounts, the screen that indicates "Thank You for logging in", and then goes to a blank screen.

Is it possible that there is some setting outside of Firefox that keeps me from the site?

I just tried to do the same thing with Internet Explorer and got the same result

Firefox safe mode, and the computer in safe mode. I am out of ideas.

You can check the log in the Web Console for error messages and the Network Monitor (Firefox/Tools > Web Developer) to see if content fails to load or is possibly blocked.

Use Ctrl+F5 or Ctrl+Shift+R to reload the page and bypass the cache to generate a fresh log.

Now I am REALLY confused. Here is the entire story:

I go to Peru several times a year and take along my internet phone and Samsung NC10 to stay in contact. This time I took my older Compaq heavy laptop to use as a backup and leave there. I had the problem with the Compaq that is detailed in this thread.

After checking a lot of things, I thought maybe my XP was corrupted or that I had picked up a virus, so I brought it back to the US to repair the XP and install a new antivirus, etc.

I just turned it on and it works.

While my other products seem to work correctly on my Peru internet connection, the Compaq does not and exhibits the problems detailed in this thread. Is it possible that there is a setting on the Compaq that makes it susceptable to location?
