How can I import my bookmarks from Edge?

Since a windows 10 update in either November or December 2015 where I believe edge then stored its bookmarks file differently (in something called an EDB database it seems) I can't shift my bookmarks back to firefox - it shifts some older ones back to my bookmark bar under the folder name 'From Microsoft Edge', but certainly at least not the new ones I have created since the end of 2015. Inconveniently the bookmarks I was able to retrieve from Edge came back in alphabetical order as opposed to chronological.

I'd also note that the nov/dec windows 10 update also permanently deleted a third of the folders in my bookmark bar, from the end of my bookmark bar to be precise. Luckliy these folders weren't work related, nevertheless I wanted out of edge quickly as possible as I found this incident to be completely irresponsible by microsoft.

Bookmarking is particularly useful to me as an academic researcher so any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Also if firefox can find a way to import all my edge bookmarks, does anyone know if it can be done chronologically/as displayed in edge? Thank you

I haven't tried it myself but found this utility mentioned in a few articles:

http://www.emmet-gray.com/Articles/EdgeManage.html

Maybe that will help?

Extra backups in Firefox before and after probably would be a good idea. See:

Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer

And then to clean up duplicates, you could try something like this:
