thunderbird messages will not download with ssl after upgrading from 31.5 to 45
I checked norton antivirus and the thunderbird.exe is ok and trusted. When I try to download the disable dhe add-on, it only will auto fix firefox, not download and no download link for thunderbird is available. I am afraid I am at the end of the line and will have to switch back to outlook if I cannot find a solution due to all the time I have spent on this.

Okay, could you try the following. I don't have Thunderbird on this computer, but this is how I disabled the problem ciphers in Firefox. The theory is that disabling these ciphers will force the server to up its game. Hopefully that will work with your mail server.
(1) Open the Thunderbird Config Editor
See: Config Editor
Click the button promising to be careful if applicable.
(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste dhe and pause while the list is filtered
(3) Double-click the security.ssl3.dhe_rsa_aes_128_sha preference to switch it from true to false
(4) Double-click the security.ssl3.dhe_rsa_aes_256_sha preference to switch it from true to false
Does that work in Thunderbird 45?

Are you getting specific messages about DHE/Logjam?
Can you send mail using SSL/TLS, or not send or receive?
Can you give the address of your mail server, or a link to your mail provider's instructions for setting up email clients?
Yes, I get the standard message for logjam described in http://mzl.la/1I90UQy. I have downloaded the add on for firefox, disable dhe, but it needs to be added to thunderbird. The downloader for 'disable dhe' automatically installs it to firefox and there is no download file I can use with the thunderbird add on manager to add it as a file. I believe that is the standard solution. Norton AV says the thunderbird.exe is just fine and is trusted.

Unfortunately, in version 45 config editor is not under the general tab under options under tools---just several boxes to check or uncheck. Any idea where it might be?
So sorry as I was in firefox trying to do that (dummy on me). I found it and will try it. Thanks so much for your time and effort. I will mark it complete as soon as I try it. Thanks again
