how to turn on new mail sound linux mint
Can't see how to add a sound to denote new mail has arrived. Do I need an add on? Linux mint17 lenovo x200 tablet

At the top right of the Thunderbird window, click the menu button
> Preferences > General > When new messages arrive.
Check 'Play a sound'.
Select 'Use the following sound file'.
Press the 'Browse' button and navigate to your sound file.

Funny I tried to do this and couldn't find where to select "Play a sound". I got annoyed and shut the computer off. I looked at my other laptop that runs Linux Mint and it had the setting as you described. I set them and it worked. I went back to the Lenovo and restarted it and the settings were there now. I have no idea what was going on but I don't really care as it is working as it should. Thanks for the help. Steve
