There does not appear to be any visual or other indicator of when IMAP has fully synced, either on an account or folder basis. I have an IMAP Account with 25+GB of mail across several hundred folders and subfolders. If I check the box "Keep messages in all folders for this account on this computer" (as well as the "Synchronize all messages locally regardless of age", it can take many many days (as the server eventually throttles my bandwidth for a period of time). Naturally, I get all the headers pretty quickly, and can see that visually in the folder pane. But then I have to open Activity Manager and keep an eye on what it's doing. But there's really no way of knowing when it's done synchronizing for the account, or at a folder level (e.g. I can see the number of emails in a folder and the size of the folder in the folderpane, but all I can assume is that those are headers that were downloaded... I don't know if the actual message bodies have been downloaded unless I happen to see it in the activity manager.) Is there a way to get a visual on this, or a status somewhere?

TB downloading of headers vs. bodies and/or attachements

According to this link, for *unsynchronized* message, the message body remains on the server until the user clicks on the message in TB's message list: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/imap-synchronization#w_synchronization

TB has a Message Synchronizing setting "Keep messages in all folders for this account on this computer", with "Avanced" settings to "Download" "for offline use" on the basis of individual folders. However, I can' find a setting to control whether TB downloads (i) just the headers; or (ii) headers, bodies, and/or attachments.

(1) Is it the case that TB will *always* download just headers until users click on it in the message list, at which point it becomes a "synchronized message" (as defined above) and locally retained in its entirety?

(2) If so, is there a way to have TB always download messages+body+attachments without having to click each one?

(3) On the other end of the bandwidth usage spectrum, is there a way to have TB not even download headers (say, upon startup) until the user actually enters the folder for viewing?

Would greatly appreciate your help again.... I recently selected the option to automatically open one of my 2 email accounts when launching Thunderbird, thinking it would save me time by opening to the email I check most often. That went great, until I realized I now can't find a way to view my OTHER email account at all!

Can someone please tell me how to UN-DO the option to automatically open one of my accounts at launch OR how to find & open my OTHER email address? (In case it's relevant, both are gmail addresses that I view thru Tbird.)

Thanks so very much! Faith

Hello.

I have tried everything to try to move my profile to an external drive (a network attached drive in this case, synology).

Every time I follow the guides (using various methods), when I reboot into thunderbird I get an empty (and slightly weird looking) interface, which crashes upon any input.

I have very limited storage in my Mac mini, and I want to move my thunderbolt storage container over to my NAS. This is a synology DS 1618+’attached via 10gbe.

Any further ideas?

Ta!

Miles.

I run my own archive methodology in Thunderbird. In the .thunderbird path with thunderbird not running I usually rename the INBOX to Inbox_year, for example Inbox_2019. I then make a new Inbox and restart thunderbird. I do the same with the SENT mail directory. I am quietly confident that this is what I have done for more than two decades. The process is NOT working at the moment. I don't really know why and I cannot find any documentation that will help me link or directly attach the getting of mail to the new inbox. It is linked to the moved folder. That is new mail is put into the Inbox_year box and not the standard inbox. I admit to not under the presented icons. The icon associate with the Inbox and the Inbox_year just move is an envelope with an unsealed flap. A;; the other icons are folder icons. I hope that my description is sufficient. Thanks and regards Peter

Automatic Login Progression for Multiple Email Acct Logins

I am running Thunderbird 52.9.1 (32-bit) on a WIN XP SP3 computer and Thunderbird 86.0b3 (32-bit) on a WIN 10 machine. Both computers use the same keyboard & monitor via a KVM switch. When logging in on the older WIN XP computer the login popup automatically progresses to the next email account for login when the current one is successful. I have 3 active email accounts loaded the exact same way in TB in both machines. When logging in on the Win 10 machine the TB login window will not automatically progress to the next email account so that I can log in. I have to manually move the mouse cursor to the next account. I have the same 3 email accounts loaded in the WIN 10 version as I do on the WIN XP SP3 machine. Is there any kind of hidden command that I can set/reset to have Version 86.0b3 (32-bit) automatically progress through all three email logins like it does in the much older 52.9.1 (32-bit) version? Or does this need to go in as a suggestion for future versions of TB?

To Whom It May Concern:

Are there any plans to integrate Thunderbird with the Windows 10 Notification system, and suspend Thunderbird's own internal notification? The Thunderbird notification does not display all notifications when emails are received from multiple accounts; it's thought that the Windows 10 notification might be superior at stacking all new messages.

I have purchased Mailwasher Pro to identify spam before it is downloaded to my computer. The problem is that even when I untick the option to "check for new messages every x minutes" new emails are still being downloaded. This means that I am not able to stop certain messages being downloaded to my computer before I have a chance to vet and delete them via Mailwasher Pro. Just in case, I have also unticked "Allow immediate server notifications when new messages arrive" - I don't know what that does so unticked it in case it was causing the problem but still the emails download automatically.

Can anyone advise me please what might be causing this problem? I have contacted support at Mailwasher Pro and they have assured me that the app does not interfere with the way Thunderbird downloads emails. Also the support person I was emailing told me that he had his settings the same as mine and his emails do not get downloaded automatically.

Thank you

Dears,

to get a useful (= ISO style) date and time format, I set the environment variable LC_TIME to lt_LT.UTF-8.

This works fine for the email inbox and for replies, but now the lightning calendar shows e.g. "2021 m. vasario 24 d. trečiadienis 12:00". As I don't speak lt, I can't easily interpret that :-)

Can I change the lightning calendar date format to a shorter one, i.e. ISO style "2021-02-24 12:00"?

Thank you!

My default view for the Folder Pane is unread folders/compact view along with a few favorite folders.

Since this upgrade, TB shows me how many unread emails I have in a mail account that's the aggregate of ALL unread messages in that account but there are often zero messages in the inbox because they've all been filtered into other folders. The point being, that under the inbox for email account A it says I have 10 unread messages and thus shows in the folder pane but those messages are in a sub folder (which also shows in the Folder pane) of that account and not the main inbox.

How can I get TB to stop that, to stop showing me how many unread messages there are in the primary account (if there are none in the inbox) and only the unread messages in the sub folders? (both show now so it'll say I have 10 messages in account A but those messages are in A sub/b/c/d.

Does this make sense? Anyway, it's annoying as I keep going to the primary to see what's new and finding nothing in there rather than just go to the subfolder they've been filed in to.

Thanks.
