Firefox crashes when I click on bookmarks?

When I click, middle click, or right click a bookmark -- Firefox freezes. I have to kill it from the task manager.

It also happens in safe mode.

I searched my HD for files named places.* and deleted everything. However, problem still persists. Also, all my bookmarks seem to still be there. So maybe there's something else I need to delete?

Chosen solution

Clicking on one particular Bookmarks folder caused Firefox to freeze. However, I was able to expand this folder and move, consolidate, or delete the many sub-folders. During this process, I discovered that one sub-folder was a copy of the All Bookmarks folder. This may have generated a type of infinite loop that caused the freeze-up, or the content of the offending folder may have been excessive.

I managed to delete all my bookmarks from within firefox by using the delete button on the keyboard (without having to click them). This seems to have solved the issue.
