REmove the Firefox search bar need the space

I need to remove the Firefox search bar ( takes up space) I have tried doing the customize and remove with hand but it looks like it works, then it doesn't really. I need to take this built in search bar out, I do have my google search bar and its fine, also please advise how to make that one shorter, its long. I have firefox 44 and windows 7 computer. all is up to date.

Chosen solution

Two search bars, but by reconfiguring, I was able to shove the mozilla off to the side and bring my google main search bar forward, i still think I should be given a choice and allowed to DELETE the mozilla search bar.

Go to the three lines in top right hand of Window, click on Customise in Drop Down Menu, a new tab opens with the option to drag and drop search bar into the Tab.

Hello, mmm....... maybe firefox combine the address and the search field in one soon......who knows :-):-)

thank you

You can get the search in the address bar, its an app called Omnibar. Its really good, you can ditch the search box altogether. :)

You can consider to move the search bar to the "3-bar" menu button drop-down list via Customization mode or via the right-click context menu of the magnifier icon (Move to Menu).

No, that didn't move it , it looked like it was moved off, and then I saw NO it was not. Its stubbornly holding on. I feel it should be easy to remove, I know they built it in, and I can't even get back my yahoo toolbar with firefox44 and I try to download it from mozilla addons but it sticks at verifying.... oy vey

Do you mean that you can't drag the search bar off the Navigation Toolbar?

Can you attach a screenshot?

  • Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot
  • Make sure that you do not exceed the maximum size of 1 MB

Try to click the Restore Defaults button in the Customize palette window to restore the default toolbar setup in case there is a problem with the browser.uiCustomization.state pref.

  • 3-bar Menu button > Customize

How many search bars do you have? Normally you have:

  • Address bar, shows the URL of the current page
  • Search bar, has a magnifying glass at the left and shows a drop-panel when you start typing

Is there something else? If so, it's probably from an extension.

Normally if you right-click the magnifying glass icon on the bar, you can move it to the graphical menu or completely remove it from the toolbar. Not sure why yours is so "sticky".
