don't want files saved as thuderbird; want to have them in PICTURES so I can download to Walgreens - how can I change option?

I'm trying to upload photos to Walgreens for my Christmas letter. All recent pix have the thunderbird symbol around them instead of being in a file folder & they won't upload. I got advice from the library. They said to: Go to Tools, then Options, then move to Attachment Tabs. They said at bottom to go to Save Files to & then hit Browse & a list of options would come up & I could click on Pictures & that's where pix I've received in emails which I clicked Save AS Files would now be. In Pictures. However, after the 1st two steps, when I click on Attachment at the top there's no Save Files to or Browse with a list of options. HELP!

So you have saved messages as files and they will be stored as eml files on your computer. If Thunderbird is your default email application, these will be displayed with a Thunderbird icon, since that is the most appropriate program you have for opening them.

Open each one in Thunderbird then save its pictures separately. Then your pictures should be saved as image files and will be available to be inserted into new messages.

I'm trying to understand why you've been advised to go to Tools|Options.
