A plugin is from a program on your system. You can disable it, or remove its program.

Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open the Add-ons Manager. Hot key; <Control>(Mac:<Command>) <Shift> A)

On the left side of the page, select Plugins.

You can only disable a plugin in Firefox.

In other words Plugins are not actually installed in Firefox like Extensions and complete Themes are. The activate/deactivate options tells Firefox to make use of that Plugin installed on system.
