Issues with receivers having scaling problems with thunderbird emails.... sentences becoming one long strip, scaled photos going back to full size etc.
Hi!
Scaling issues on receivers side: It scales ok, the font, on my side, when I compose an email, but when received by others not using Thunderbird (I dont know anyone else using thunderbird actually) then the sentence is extended across whole monitor so they have to scroll across the screen to finish reading it, and then back again. This is really not professional for the work environment.
Secondly, the images I input into text area, I scale to fit the email, but when received, the image is full scale again, and these often take up the whole screen or more, and again creates a problem for receivers to try and see image, re-scale etc, also not professional at all.
Other than this I have enjoyed Thunderbird, but with this big scaling issue, it is becoming tough to continue using it, knowing these issues.
This is with people using macmail, MS outlook etc, so is on various OS and mail software.
Please let me know if there is a solution, or that Thunderbird will update Thunderbird with the corrections soon?
I am using 38.1.0 version.
Thanks and kind regards,
Raoul

Please tell us:
- Your OS and version of thunderbird. (sorry just noticed you are using 38.1.0., but OS? )
- Are you composing using HTML or Plain Text?
- If HTML, do you only use the Thunderbird Write compose window and Formatting bar to type contents or do you copy paste anything from eg: MSWord?
- Do you send in both HTML and Plain Text?
- Have you changed anything in the composition HTML font settings?
Not sure? check here: Tools > Options > Composition > General tab or Menu icon > Options > Options > Composition > General tab
What do you have under HTML? The settings in this section can affect how messages are sent. If you make unusual choices, then people who receive messages from you might find them difficult or impossible to read. Tell me what you are currently using? suggest you use: Select: Font = 'Variable width' and Size 'medium'
- click on 'Send Options'.
- select : 'Send message in both Plain Text and HTML.
- click on all OK's.
Could you send an email to me? As I use thunderbird, we can see what occurs.
Send one of the emails that displayed incorrectly to other recipients.

thanks for email. Here is an image showing you what I can see. i've removed your email address. All font is the same size. All lines are wrapping, so if I manually alter the width of window, the text adjusts and flows correctly. scaled embedded image looks correct. attachment is of a larger size and clearly shows the difference in scale proportions.
Hi, thanks for the feedback!
Clearly it works okay from Thunderbird to Thunderbird user.
Still I have my other recipients complaining... but anyhow, will see what I can do about it.
Thanks for checking it out for me!
I'm more inclined to believe this is to do with the recipients computer. but lets check out a few settings.
The variable width settings in Options > Composition allow no actual font to be set unless you select a specific font in the formatting Bar. So these settings should remain as they are currently set.
Tools > Options > Display > Formatting tab The font used in Display is also the default font used when composing emails, so you can choose the basic font you like to see when composing. But that default composing font will not be specified when sent. This allows the recipient to use whatever font they find suitable or allow specified fonts. I use Arial - easy to read.
I do have an idea you can try. I notice that your outgoing emails are scanned by AVAST, which is adding a section of code. Hence why in the image I posted, you can see 'To protect your privacy, Thunderbird has blocked remote content in this message'. Now this section does specify tables, font etc.
You do not have to have this added product advertising attached to your emails nor do you have to scan an outgoing email.
To test whether AVAST is effecting your outgoing emails: Suggest you remove the additional text to see if it makes a difference and ask one of your recipients if they can check to see if it makes a difference to how fonts appear, scrolling etc. Also switch off outgoing mail scanning and test. See some info in a question I reponded to a while ago:
Thanks again! I will look at the font settings in more detail and test the results via my colleagues.
I have turned off the Avast outgoing email check and will test with my colleagues to see if anything has changed and let you know in due course.
I will be away travelling for a while so may not hear from me for a while... but again thanks for your help so far, really appreciate it!
Kind regards,
Raoul
