How do I make something into a pdf?

I'm a student and my instructor wants me to upload pdf files into the school system. I do not know how to make something into a pdf. When I hit save or save as, it saves it as a png. He will not accept this and gives me a zero. What is the best way to get what is basically a screen shot to save as a pdf?
