thunderbird, lightning and contacts : add on of firefox?
Hello all mozilian(e)s,
Are people not using most of the time webmails, online addressbook and online calendar system? Are they not more use to their web-browser than software such as Thunderbird, Lightning...?
Is it not possible to make Thunderbird an addon of Firefox, to make people open it in a tab (and pin it :-) as they would do with a webmail?
I'm sure it's even easier to make lightning an addon of Firefox?
Finally, would it be possible to work on a really good, intuitive and beautiful addressbook? (could you take some inspiration from Firefox OS)? and make it as an addon of Firefox too :-)
Bast regards, Thatoo

I think you need to have a look at SeaMonkey. http://www.seamonkey-project.org/
You got it. Thunderbird integrated into Firefox. and it also has the Lightning add-on https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/seamonkey/addon/lightning/?src=search
This where Thunderbird and Firefox came from originally, the Mozilla and Netscape suite.

re: Are people not using most of the time webmails.....
Not if they are using Thunderbird. If they use Thunderbird they do not need webmail. The whole point of having Thunderbird email client is not to use webmail. One of its great features, is that all previously downloaded emails can be read without internet connectivity.
Sounds like you are looking for something similar to what gmail offer, they have their own servers and offer email addresses, plus a load more. But you do need internet connectivity and have little control over the product and must put up with the adverts etc.
Mozilla Thunderbird do not have servers nor issue email addresses, it is not an ISP or webhosting company.
read again :-)
I know how much Thunderbird is useful, I'm a traveller and I use it's offline function all the time.
I'm just saying that people are nowadays use to webmail, they are use tu check their email in their favorite web browser. So if Thunderbird become an addon of Firefox, it would open in a tab of Firefox like a webmail... but with the offline functionality (of course!). I'm just pointing the fact that habit change and to keep Thunderbird dynamic, it could be the idea to make it appear modern again. The ad could be "Better than webmails, check your email offline!". Understood?

Why would I want my addressbook to be online? Why would I need a calendar online? There are calendar apps and addressbooks in mobile devices and in operating systems. That is true of Mac OS anyway, and if not true of other OSs, one can get applications to add.
It seems that I have difficulty to make me understand. I'm speaking of making thunderbird, contacts and lightning addons of Firefox. I'm not speaking of online stuff. It would stay inside your computer, inside Firefox even. I'm just saying that it doesn't need to be independent software, it could be addons of Firefox.
Best regards, to all, Thatoo

Thank you Matt to understand me :-)
That is exactly what I was talking about, except that had something a bit more modern style in mind, thunderbird, lightning and contacts being some "pins" and each of them having a modern interface like the one I can enjoy on my FFOS device (especialy the interface of contacts in Thunderbird is terrible).
Thank you again Matt for making me discover Seamonkey. Maybe Mozilla could look back to their root and find a way to unify Firefox, Thunderbird (Lightning and contacts) and FFOS. Firefox on Desktop, Firefox in Android, Firefox in iOS (maybe some day), Firefox OS!
