After upgrading to Firefox 38 on May 12, 2015, when opening a new window the toolbar is there but it does not show the bookmarks that I have under Bookmarks Toolbar - before the upgrade every new window always shows all Toolbar Bookmarks. The only way I have found to get them back is to click on View>Toolbars>Bookmarks Toolbar which first removes the entire Toolbar, then repeating to get the Toolbar back with my Toolbar Bookmarks - however this is only good for this window not any others and not any new windows opened. Previous users have said you can go to about:customizing and click on Show/Hide Toolbars to do something about this problem, but since the upgrade to Firefox 38 the screen for about:customizing is blank - nothing to click or change. So, have I missed something or is a fix coming?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Try to rename (or delete) the xulstore.json file in the Firefox profile folder. You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
