Chosen solution

The only case Mozilla may ever use WebKit is on IOS.

Is there a particular reason why you think current desktop Firefox is using webkit?. It is not as if they can just swap out the engine and do so without news of it spreading all around tech sites.

The latest version of Firefox uses Gecko. Browsers such as Safari and Chrome use webkit.

Then use Chrome, Safari, or Opera. Mozilla has always used Gecko and other than on iOS I would expect Mozilla to continue using Gecko.

Sorry, but you're being silly now or are terribly misinformed. If you want WebKit, the only way you're gonna get it with the Firefox name is on iOS and that won't be the "real Firefox".

Mozilla is based upon Netscape, which created the Gecko rendering engine. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/about/history/details/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Firefox

There was a lot written about Opera switching to WebKit back in Feb 2013, but I haven't found anything that was posted recently via a search for "Mozilla switch to WebKit"

Here's a blog article written by the Mozilla CTO at that time. https://brendaneich.com/2013/02/why-mozilla-matters/

Overall, a switch to WebKit would spell the end of Mozilla. The Firefox OS would be dead in the water, along with XUL, ....

What you read may have been about work on getting a web browser on iOS, since Gecko will not be allowed due to Apple restrictions. This is the closest something from Mozilla that may ever have webkit in use instead of Gecko and will be a shell and not the Firefox.

The browser we know as Firefox has had Gecko as the rendering engine ever since it was Phoenix 0.1 back in Sept 2002 and it is not about to change to webkit after so long. It would basically be a new browser if they ever did use webkit.
