Is there a way to get rid of/hide the arrow-drop down menu of most-visited sites in the address bar/awesome bar without turning off site suggestions?
I still want to be able to receive suggestions from my history when I type in the bar, I just don't want that most-visited sites drop-down menu readily accessible at the click of a mouse, typically causing me another 15 minutes/30 minutes/several hours of procrastination time, know what I mean?

There is no Most Visited Sites toolbar. There is a link in the Bookmarks toolbar. Is that what you are talking about?
Try to set the browser.urlbar.maxRichResults pref to 0 on the about:config page to disable the drop-down list and leave browser.urlbar.autocomplete.enabled set to true and possibly also browser.urlbar.autoFill.
You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.
Hi folks, thanks for responding!
FredMcD: Yes, I think that's what I mean. I added a screenshot to show the drop-down arrow I'm talking about.
cor-el: This worked; however, it prevented all sites from showing up in the drop-down menu-not just when I click on that arrow. For instance, when I begin to type an address into the address bar, now no suggestions come up at all from my history or anywhere. If possible, I'd like for the suggestions to still drop down when I type into the address bar, just for the most-visited sites to not drop-down when I click the arrow.
Thanks again for your help
Your screenshot shows two arrows on the location/address bar and the one on the left is likely added by an extension. The second arrow is the arrow that opens a drop down list that shows items that you have typed or pasted in the location/address bar.
Do you mean that there is a problem clicking one of the buttons?
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
- Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
- Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
