The spell checker in Thunderbird -- I am using their English/United States dictionary -- checks all the e-mail settings (e.g., font) in addition to the message I write. How can prevent this from happening?

There was an issue as you describe several versions ago. What version are you using?

I think the troubleshooting information might help on this one.

re: 'Here' means in this question in this forum, which you read using a browser.

In Thunderbird. Help > Troubleshooting Information

do not select 'Include account names' click on 'Copy text to clipboard' see image below.

Then in the email you received from the Mozilla Support forum, click on 'Post a Reply' to open your browser to show this question.

In the forum, Right click in a Reply text box and select 'Paste'.

I think the Firefox Troubleshooting page is unhelpful in that it tells you to click on "Help"; in Thunderbird in particular you should just hover over "Help" and wait for a pop-up, which contains "Troubleshooting Information".

I still haven't worked out how you can tell if you should click or hover in that wretched Application Menu.

So:

  1. Click the three-lines menu button
  2. Move the mouse pointer over Help
  3. Wait
  4. Click on Troubleshooting Information
  5. Clear the checkbox Include account information
  6. Click the button Copy text to clipboard
  7. Open a reply here, place the cursor in the text box, and paste. With the mouse, right-click|Paste, or if you prefer the keyboard, ctrl+v.

In addition to the default English/United States dictionary, I notice you have : English - English Dictionary, 1.5, true, EnglishEnglishDictionary@lipocodes

Perhaps their is a conflict between them. Disable the addon extension English - English Dictionary, 1.5 Close and restart Thunderbird. Then check to see if spellchecker improves.
