Implementing the "delete popstate.dat" solution did not solve the problem. I am suddenly unable do get mail from Time Warner. What next?

That is all.

Chosen solution

The popstate.dat file keeps a record of what has been downloaded so that TB does not download twice. So if you were receiving loads of duplicate emails then you would have been advised to delete the popstate.dat file as it may have gone awol. This would have meant everything currently on the server would have been downloaded again but only once and should have stopped all the duplicate emails.

However, the line : I am suddenly unable do get mail from Time Warner. implies that you have a different issue.

Can you provide some info on this.

1.Can you still send emails via Time Warner mail account?

2. When you startup Thunderbird does it attempt to get messages from Time Warner account?

3. Do you have these Account Settings selected? Tools > Account Settings > Server Settings for the TW account

  • select: 'Check for new messages at startup'
  • select: 'Check for new messages every eg: 15 minutes'
  • select: 'Automatically download new messages'
  • if you make any changes click on OK

4. When you try to manually 'Get messages' what happens? Does it say anything like looking up...connecting...connected etc in the bottom Status bar? What error message do you get...word for word?

5. Please provide this info as well.

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • do not select 'include account name'
  • click on 'copy text to clipboard'
  • Then right click in this question forum Reply box and select 'paste'
  • You can edit/remove all info on fonts and printers but nothing else.

I was composing a response to your list of questions.

I got to #4 "manually 'get messages' what happens?" It worked, I did nothing different.

I composed a test message in another client and sent same after terminating ThunderBird. ThunderBird is now back to normal function.

I suspect TWC made changes on their end. I did get a few duplicate messages, no worries.

Thanks for the assistance, although I appears that it was not my (our) problem to begin with.

That is all.
