Fixing target in properties?

more options

I'm having a problem with Bing becoming my homepage instead of firefox default. I read some post in the forum and found out that someone was having the same problem, so I did what they told them to do and sure enough when I create a shortcut, the target gets changed from "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe to one that has a bunch of other writing behind it, so they suggested to delete everything except the target file, so I did and it worked but the problem is once I shut the browser down and then reopen it, the target is back to the way it was before with all the writing after the firefox.exe. I have to delete everything again and type it back in again for it to work right. I have did a search for Bing and have ran two virus scan's on my computer, one with Avast and one with AVG and it still does it, could someone please help me as I'm about to go crazy? Thank you.

Avast and AVG are anti-virus applications. That Bing garbage is Malware or PUP (Potentially Unwanted Programs), you need to correct "tools" to deal with that type of infection.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Thank you very much for your quick response. After I ran the AVG anti-virus scan and then went back and fixed the target myself it seems to be working fine now, but I do appreciate your help with my problem and I'm checking out the software programs you have suggested. Once again thank you so much for your help. Oh I did also run a boot scan and I did find several PUP files, which I deleted.

Bookmark and use this; Mozilla Search Reset {web link} This add-on is very simple: on installation, it backs up and then resets your search preferences and home page to their default values, and then uninstalls itself. This affects the search bar, URL bar searches, and the home page.

Thank you for your reply. I have bookmarked the link and will try it out if I should encounter the problem again.
