For the last two days, I have been unable to connect to any web sites via Firefox. I have tried various "fixes" which seemed logical but nothing has worked.

My understanding of my computer/ IT in feneral is v limited so excuse me if this explanation seems unduly long or detailed. I dont know what information could be relevant, so I'm going to write it all down.

Firstly: my wifi is definitely working, because my phone is connecting via it. And my PC is definitely connected to the internet as I am able to send and receive mail through Outlook,& I downloaded an album via iTunes. Other programs are running fine too.

I tried restarting my computer. I cleared my cookies etc (just in case) I ran my anti-virus scan I disabled my Windows firewall I re-set my Firefox

None of this has worked. My next thought is to uninstall Firefox and re-install it... except I dont have an alternative browser on my PC. I used to have Chrome on my PC but it seems to have been wiped during some recent Windows 8 update.

A friend emailed me a Chrome setup file but it hasn't worked- and anyway, I only want Chrome so I can re-download Firefox... getting Chrome is not the solution for me!!

I BELIEVE that Firefox stopped working after my PC installed routine updates. By this I mean that a couple of days ago, when I went to shut down my laptop, my only options were "install update and restart" or "install update and shut down".

I use Windows 8.1. I feel like the updates must have been the problem, because the timing seems to coincide. I really need to be able to access the web so please please help! Thanks

Chosen solution

hello, normally such issues are caused by a firewall/security software which doesn't recognize & therefore blocks new firefox versions. please remove all program rules for firefox from your firewall and let it detect the new version of the browser again.
