Problem with "connection untrusted"....

common problem, but I have tried some of the common fixes

checking the date and time on my systerm, and clearing history, and also a system restore.

I will give you the hotmail example, but this is also the case with googlemail, facebook and other websites.

This Connection is Untrusted

You have asked Firefox to connect securely to blu179.mail.live.com, but we can't confirm that your connection is secure.

Normally, when you try to connect securely, sites will present trusted identification to prove that you are going to the right place. However, this site's identity can't be verified. What Should I Do?

If you usually connect to this site without problems, this error could mean that someone is trying to impersonate the site, and you shouldn't continue.

blu179.mail.live.com uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because no issuer chain was provided. (Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer)

i am running firefox 31.0, which I believe is up to date, and im currently running a virus scan, nothing has shown up yet, also system restore has not fixed the problem.

Edit based on further reading: Facebook is also not trusted, also other devices on my wi-fi dont have this problem.

hello IanLister, a possible solution depends on different factors: in case the error code equals sec_error_unknown_issuer, please attempt to add an exception on the bottom of the error page (but don't add it for real!) & inspect the certificate like shown in the screenshot attached:

  • which issuer information does the certificate contain?

thank you!

"This Connection is Untrusted" error message appears - What to do

Thank you for the idea, however I do not have the option to bypass, or make it an exception, my error page stops at Technical Details.

Also whilst that would be a work around, I would rather the problem be fixed, or at least know what the problem is.

Just to update, both my Anti Virus scan, and a Malware Bytes scan have come back clean.

ok just found this on the link you gave me (which seems to be the suggest solution to my problem0

You may have enabled SSL scanning in your security software such as ESET or BitDefender. Try to disable this option.

Ill be honest I dont know what SSL is, and ive not made any changes in my BullGuard, but I will take a look.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

If you use KASPERSKY, this is the solution they emailed to me when I encountered this problem. It worked wonderfully.

Here are the steps on what you need to do:

To Show hidden files, folders and drives:

Go to the Start Menu Open up My Documents folder On your keyboard, press and hold 'Alt' key then press 'T' to open the Tools Menu. On the list, please click on 'Folder Options' Go to 'View' tab. Under Advanced Settings, please select or choose 'Show hidden files, folders and drives'. Click on 'Apply' then 'Ok'. Then close the My Documents window.

Deleting and Importing Certificate:

Open up Firefox, click the 'Open Menu' icon or the three horizontal lines. Go to Options Go to the Advanced tab in the top right Click on 'Certificates' tab Click on 'View Certificates' button Under Authorities you will find one or more "KasperskyAnti-VirusPersonalRootCertificate" Select the certificate then delete the file(s).

Select the Import button. Browse to C:\ProgramData\Kaspersky Lab\AVP15.0.1\Data\Cert\ select the (fake)Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal Root Certificate, and press open. When importing the certificate, there are three options, select the option for "Trust this CA to identify websites" then press OK on all the windows to save the settings.

Please close the Firefox window and reopen the program then try to access sites again. If the steps stated above solved the issue, follow the steps on how to 'Show hidden files, folders and drives' and please select/choose ' Do not Show hidden files, folders and drives' to restore the default setting.
