When I customize the bar (where you enter a URL) to add Google search input, download arrow, ghostery, etc, when I reopen FF, it's back to just the URL input area

Thank you

hello Photoman15, maybe the file in your profile folder that holds the UI customizations got corrupted. please try to reset it: go to the firefox menu ≡ > help ? > troubleshooting information, click on profile folder/show folder and close all firefox windows afterwards. a windows explorer window should open up - in there delete the file named localstore.rdf - it will be regenerated again the next time you launch the browser.

Sorry, it didn't work. I also (previously) deleted prefs.js and that didn't work either.

this dropper doesn't appear for me by default - is this caused by one of your stylish scripts and can you use it to make the urlbar smaller or disable the script once?

You can try to reset the browser.uiCustomization.state on the about:config page.

You can check for problems with preferences.

Delete possible user.js and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.

There is software like Advanced SystemCare with its Surfing Protection feature that can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.
