I want these annoying popups that started after I upgraded Firefox to stop or I will go back to IE11

more options

Almost every time I go to a new screen or website I get these pop-up advertisements that are very very annoying and are loud. I hate them. All the "help" I can find on your help pages does not address my problem and are a bunch of mumbo jumbo that Mozilla apparently put in there to confuse the issue even more. If I cannot get a satisfactory solution PDQ I am going back to IE11.

Sorry but popups ads and such does not come with any version of Firefox for any OS from www.mozilla.org.

hello, you may have malicious addons present. please try these steps:

  1. reset firefox (this will keep your bookmarks and passwords)
  2. afterwards go to the firefox menu New Fx Menu > addons > extensions and in case there are still extensions listed there, disable them.
  3. finally run a full scan of your system with different security tools like the free version of malwarebytes and adwcleaner to make sure that adware isn't present in other places of your system as well.

Nice try Philip, but that ain't gonna get it. I have run three different security programs just yesterday because I am going to have to re-install Win8Pro. My C drive is clear of these monsters. These are NOT malware or ads from a trickster download. They are real advertisements from places like Kellogg's, Ford, GM, Apple, Minute Maid and others like them. I want an end to them. I really do like Firefox more than IE11 in most instances, but I will drop it like a hot potato if this continues and y'all can't get any solutions to it.

have you tried a reset of the browser yet? also the two programs i've recommended are specialised on browser hijackers so they might have a different focus than the security tools you've already run...

Right now I am in the process of backing up my C drive before I reinstall Win8Pro. One of the programs I used was Malwarebytes another was Spybot S&D with anti-virus. the other was Avira. I am not going to try resetting Firefox until after I have reinstalled Win8Pro because I don't want to do anything that might slow down this transfer for the backup. Maybe tomorrow I might try it, but I am not ignorant of the ways of computers. I really do not expect that there will be any change when I do the reset. But, we'll see, won't we.

If you get a pop-up message asking to update Firefox or plugins then such a message is likely a scam and you should never respond to such an alert to avoid getting infected with malware.

  • Only update Firefox via "Help > About" or by downloading and installing Firefox from the Mozilla server and never via a pop-up or link on a web page.
  • Plugins should only be updated via the plugin itself or by visiting the home page of the plugin.

You can check for recently installed suspicious or unknown extensions.

You can try to create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem

OK, here's what happened. When I reinstalled Win8Pro I got Win8Pro and almost nothing else--including no Firefox. So I don't have that problem with Firefox any more since I don't have Firefox anymore. Also the problem I was having with IE11 was fixed because a new IE10 was installed which I will upgrade to IE11 tomorrow. Sorry guys, but I'm sticking with IE11. TonyB
