after crashing it tells me, that I am low on memory - can someone please help me increasing it?
I am not very computer literate and don't know, how to increase the memory. Can someone please help me with this? I am so tired of the computer crashing about every 5 minutes. It gives me the crash reporter, but nobody has helped me fix the problem. I would appreciate any help greatly - thanks

There are a few things we can do here to help Firefox use less Memory. If your computer just has a low amount of RAM you may have to purchase more.
- Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware Malware and Viruses can slow down your computer, cause weird error messages and crash Firefox.
- Update your plugins, https://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck/ out of date plugins can cause performance issues and crashes (Your flash player especially is out of date)
- Reset Firefox, Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings
hello kraut13,
Type clt+alt+del from your keyboard there will be a menu which will pop-up in that select task manager and try to close all the running app which are not important to you at that time. This will provide extra RAM space to you and the chances of your system getting hang will reduce.

Please don't follow GAUTAM's advice, that can actually cause significant damage to your computer at worst, or cause it to spontaneously restart at best.
You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.
- Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
You need close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

There are other things that need your attention.
Note that your System Details List shows multiple Flash plugins.
- Shockwave Flash 14.0 r0
- Shockwave Flash 11.9 r900
You can find the installation path of all plugins on the about:plugins page.
You can check the Flash player installation folder for multiple Flash player plugins and remove older version(s) of the plugin (NPSWF32) and possibly (re)install the latest Flash player.

- (64 bit Windows) C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\
I do that all the time, when the computer hangs up and then start new. I show having 190 GB free of 284 GB. Isn't that enough?
You are looking at your hard drive space, which is not the same as RAM.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/how-much-computer-ram#1TC=windows-7 can help you find out how much RAM you have.
Try the other steps I suggested as well
that's too confusing - don't forget I am a novice
it says 4.0
So you have a decent amount of memory. Please try the steps that I gave you above, ignore everyone else's posts for the time being.
it gives me the warning: your computer is low on memory, save your files and close the programs: Firefox. Then I click on cancel and after a while I get a foggy screen and then it crashes.
Have you tried the 3 steps I gave you above?
I just checked the plug-ins and it said that the Shockwave player was out of date. I updated it
Awesome :) Now, go ahead and scan for malware and Reset Firefox. Then, one more thing, run Windows updates a few times
I did try the troubleshooting, but it looks different, then what it says
Hi kraut13, are you saying that the Troubleshooting Information page looks different than what is shown in the help article? The Reset button is in the upper right corner of the page, but there is a lot of other information available in addition to that one area. That's normal.
I tried the reset, but can't find where it is. I looked under the help section, but it doesn't show there
I just did the reset
now I have the tabs on top again
Are you still getting issues with low memory? Have you run Windows updates and scanned for malware as well?
I scanned for Malware - nothing. I reset Firefox, but I have not done anything else, to even get that response. I will keep this log with you and I and will let you know, if I run into any problems. Is that ok with you?
