Does it always stay at exactly 30 days or a maximum of 30 days, maybe you are running some clean up utility that is causing that.

Firefox store as much History as it can by default some of my accounts have had years of History in them. Note it depends partly on the l spec of the local machine and also on the number of bookmarks because they compete for space. I prefer the bookmarks to History as they are less likely to disappear e.g. be accidentally cleared.

You did not provide the full troubleshooting information not sure if that would have offered any clues.

Install and run the places maintenance addon.

You look to have used only about 1/2 of your available History space so you should not be losing History at the moment, unless of course the History expiry addon is active or something else is affecting it.

Effectively the space is set programatically depending on the System configuration. The space is shared with bookmarks and bookmarks are given priority, although a minimum of 7 days History will be retained.

I know the issue is the same no matter what version, but staying on an out of date version leaves you open to attacks and other issues. So please update.

And what about the main issue for the preservation of history?

Whatever you do it may be a good idea to periodically, maybe weekly run the places maintenance addon report to watch to see if your History limit is approaching and History is lost only when places maintenance shows you are running out of available space.

If that is so it is probably expected behaviour and you will need to upgrade the system or do something to reduce the number of bookmarks in that profile. The places maintenance addon other options could also be run at least as a one off, it should not do harm and there is a slim possibility they could fix a fault in the database that is causing the problem.

As mentioned this may not be a Firefox bug. It may be expected behaviour, for which you would like a workaround.

If it does turn out to be a bug with Firefox it is only supported for a fix in a current version of Firefox.

No doubt Tyler's next suggestion will be that you wait to see if the problem occurs in Firefox 31 after a reset or in safe mode with all plugins disabled and with preferences reset.

A possibly more practical method of testing that out may be to run Firefox 31 with an additional new clean test profile with all plugins disabled in that test profile. See if the problem occurs in the new profile. Meanwhile do any browsing where plugins and extensions are essential in the existing profile. To make such a test both more realistic and more convenient you could export your bookmarks from your old profile and import them into the new test profile.

If you consider testing by using multiple Firefox profiles

Workaround
Possibly one method of doing that is to have Firefox profiles for different browsing purposes. If for example a particular browsing task is generating thousands of bookmarks do that in its own profile or in a couple of profiles.

• Then what could be both a disadvantage and an advantage is that the History would be split between profiles.
• The bookmarks would also be split between profiles, in turn leaving more room in each profile for History entries.
• Although there may be some duplication of History entries that should allow the History to be extended further back in time in each profile.

Reduce the number of bookmarks I can not! They need to work. Addon places maintenance of positive results did not give. I've dropped my profile, creating a new profile, import bookmarks, etc. Profile division is also not a very good way! You just have to increase the amount of memory for the bookmark!
