Bookmark tags are an endless string of slashes \\\ How do i get rid of them?
Simple the details are all in the question. My bookmarks tags are a long string of forward slashes and I cannot delete them There must be a way to get rid of them short of deleting my entire bookmark file
Chosen solution
If you would Export Bookmarks to HTML those Tags will "disappear" - they aren't used in the HTML format bookmarks file, but they are in the JSON bookmarks backup file.

How do the tags show in the Tags folder in the Library? Can you delete them there? Tags are stored in a JSON backup, so you would have to use an HTML backup and delete the places.sqlite file to reset all the tags.
You can also try this extension:
- Places Maintenance: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/places-maintenance/
I tried places maintenece and it did not help
Here is a snip of the bookmark you can see the slashes under tags
Did you ever restore a JSON backup?
- bookmarks-####-##-##_xxxx.json
It looks that the bookmarks got restored from a corrupted JSON backup.
You normally remove tags by selecting a tag folder and then select all bookmarks in the tags folder and delete them all. This will remove the tags and not the bookmarks.
Otherwise you would have to use an HTML backup to rebuild the bookmarks.
I think you are right. The bookmark file is corrupt. There are almost 600 of those slash tags and they will not delete Oh well. My bookmarks are long overdue for a housecleaning. Thanks
I backed up the corrupt bookmark files (jason not html) and then restored it and the slashes were still there but I was able to delete them from the tags folder

Well the tags are gone thanks
The simplest thing to do is delete the entire bookmark file and restore it from a backup which you know did not have the slashes. Works perfectly although you may lose a few recent bookmarks. Small price to pay
