Firefox balances privacy with performance by collecting limited data, such as usage trends, crash reports, and system details, to improve stability and functionality. This article provides an overview of what’s included in your Firefox settings and how you can control data collection and usage across desktop, Android, or iOS.

Manage settings that involve data collection on desktop

Manage “technical and interaction data”, the “daily usage ping” and automatic crash report settings

  1. In the Menu bar at the top of the screen, click Firefox and then select Preferences or Settings, depending on your macOS version.Click the menu button Fx89menuButton and select Settings.
  2. In the left-hand menu, click Privacy & Security.
  3. Scroll down to the Firefox Data Collection and Use section.
  4. Uncheck or check the following options based on your preferences:

  5. Your changes are saved automatically. Close the Settings tab when done.

Manage “technical and interaction data” and crash report settings

  1. In the Menu bar at the top of the screen, click Firefox and then select Preferences or Settings, depending on your macOS version.Click the menu button Fx89menuButton and select Settings.
  2. In the left-hand menu, click Privacy & Security.
  3. Scroll down to the Firefox Data Collection and Use section.
  4. Uncheck or check the following options based on your preferences:
    • 'Allow Firefox to send technical and interaction data to Mozilla – Helps improve Firefox features, performance, and stability. For details, see Manage technical and interaction data collection settings in Firefox
    • Also enables:
      • Allow Firefox to make personalized extension recommendations – Provides tailored extension suggestions.
      • Allow Firefox to install and run studies – Allows Mozilla to test experimental features before public release. For details, see About Studies.
    • Allow Firefox to send backlogged crash reports – Sends crash data to help diagnose and fix browser issues.

  5. Your changes are saved automatically. Close the Settings tab when done.

Manage sponsored content data, recent activity and weather

  1. Click the gear Fx89Personalize-GearIcon icon at the top right corner of your New Tab page. A panel will open, showing content you can customize.
  2. Click the toggle next to a section to switch it on Fx89Personalize-ToggleOn or off Fx89Personalize-ToggleOff to show or hide that section. To opt in or opt out of sponsored content, check or uncheck those options.
