Pocket sponsored stories on new tabs

Pocket occasionally partners with select publishers and brands to deliver high-quality sponsored stories to Firefox users in the Recommended by Pocket section of the New Tab page. These stories will always be clearly notated as "sponsored content" and you can control whether they’re shown in your new tabs.

Recommended by Pocket stories on the New Tab page is a feature currently available in the U.S., Canada, U.K. and Germany. We're working to bring it to other countries.

If you prefer to not see a sponsored story in your tab, you can easily dismiss it by selecting the ●●● (3-dot) button next to the recommendation and clicking Dismiss.

You can also permanently opt out of viewing sponsored stories by doing the following:

  1. Click the cogwheel Fx88NewTabCogwheel iconPersonalize buttoncogwheel Fx89Personalize-GearIcon icon in the upper right of the New Tab page.
  2. Deselect the Sponsored Stories checkbox under Recommended by Pocket.

To learn more about customizing your New Tab page, see Customize your New Tab page to hide or display content and Customize items on your Firefox New Tab page.

What data do you or the sponsors receive?

Sponsors: We share aggregated data with our third-party ad platform, Adzerk, related to the sponsored content you see and click so that advertisers can see how many people have clicked on their articles. Sponsors don't receive any additional data from Pocket or Mozilla except for an aggregated total count of impressions and clicks that a particular item receives. Lastly, we don't collect or share personally identifying data through these interactions with sponsors.

Firefox & Pocket: By default, when recommendations from Pocket are displayed in your tab, we collect information about how many times they appear and how many times they're clicked. However, this information isn't associated with any of the technical and interaction information about you or your copy of Firefox.

How do I opt out or delete this technical and interaction data?

Sponsors: When you opt out of viewing sponsored stories, we also treat this as a request to delete your technical and interaction data that is shared with Adzerk and relevant sponsors. To opt out of viewing sponsored stories:

  1. Click the cogwheel Fx88NewTabCogwheel iconPersonalize buttoncogwheel Fx89Personalize-GearIcon icon in the upper right of the New Tab page.
  2. Deselect the Sponsored Stories checkbox under Recommended by Pocket.
