Thunderbird connection resets when using Mozilla VPN.

I am using on Mozilla VPN on my Linux computer. Thunderbird is my email program. My ISP is Spectrum. I have a very old rr.com account. When I instruct Thunderbird to "get mail", it gives me a pop-up "Thunderbird connection to server mail.twc.com was reset". The only way to stop this is to disconnect my vpn.

Is there a way to stop this behavior? I would prefer to leave the vpn on at all times.

BTW, I am in the U.S. and select a location in the U.S. for the vpn.

Many servers object to a VPN because it hides your IP. Often access is completely blocked because server thinks you could potentially be a hacker. In your case, it seems access to server is being accepted, but everything gets reset.

I'm on Linux Mint 22.3 and the "app exclusions" tab doesn't show up in the Mozilla VPN menu. There is a cgroup folder (/sys/kernel/cgroup/), but no cgroup1 folder. Mint is a Debian derivative, and I am running Cinnamon desktop.

What am I missing?
