I have problems migrating my Windows 10 Thunderbird profile to a new computer running Linux.

On the new computer, I want to put the profile into a custom folder, not the standard folder (which would be /home/torben/.var/app/net.thunderbird.Thunderbird/.thunderbird in my case)

Here's what I did:

I installed Thunderbird 128.13.0esr under Fedora Linux 42 using flatpak.

Upon first startup, I aborted the mail account setup process

Opened Help/Troubleshooting information ... about:profiles

Create new profile ... Choose folder (I am translating everything from my German language version)

--> That's where an error message occurs: "/home/torben/.thunderbird not found ..." (interestingly, this folder simply does not exist (yes, I know how to view hidden files) although about:profiles also says that the "root folder" of the two already existing profiles default and default-esr is inside /home/torben/.thunderbird !?)

Nevertheless, in the profile assistant I can choose the folder (/home/torben/Dokumente/Gemeinsam/Documents/Briefe/Thunderbird_Profiles/tj63nudj.default) containing my migrated profile

The profile assistant tells me that my personal settings and data will be saved in /run/user/1000/doc/e9915464/tj63nudj.default (?)

After finishing the profile assistant, I can see the newly created profile in about:profiles, but it says "This profile is currently used by another application and therefore cannot be deleted" (what other application?)

I click "normal re-start" in the upper right corner of the about:profiles tab

After restarting, I open the about:profiles tab again. Now I can click on "run profile" under my newly created profile and Thunderbird opens a new window where everything works fine: All the migrated mails are there, I can log into my usual imap accounts etc.

I can close both windows, restart Thunderbird again and again and everything stays fine

BUT after some time (about 10 minutes) Thunderbird won't (re)start anymore and displays this error:

"Thunderbird is already running, but is not responding. To use Thunderbird, you must first close the existing Thunderbird process, restart your device, or use a different profile."

The error persists after rebooting.

This error seems to be related to that whole manual migration process, because when I simply follow that mail account setup assistant after a clean re-install of Thunderbird, I can keep using the program without any issues (although the /home/torben/.thunderbird folder isn't created either) ...

Would be very grateful if someone had an idea how to solve this problem ... Thanks in advance!

Hi to all.

I've had one of my TB configured email accounts disabled so I cannot login to it. How can I avoid TB to show me again and again that it's not able to connect that account? I just want to keep the already received/sent emails there in TB but it goes on and on showing that message even if I don't work on that account via TB anymore.

I've tried to unflag the option to check new messages from the Server options, but it didn't work. I've also tried to move all the emails/folder on local folders via TB interface, but this was made just partially possible because TB tried to login possibly due to some still-not-downloaded old messages which where made impossible to move. Moving all to a local folder will let me delete the account from TB and set me free from that annoying message which is also causing TB to be resource consuming, I don't know why, so that the laptop fan goes crazy (in such case, quitting TB causes the laptop fan to be back in peace in seconds).

Thanks. Regards.

Recently, A new hard drive was installed in my computer. I neglected to plan for that by exporting my address book and calendar. I have installed Thunderbird again and the address book. But I cannot get the calendar data to go into Thunderbird. Even a computer guy who extracted the address book and calendar from the old hard drive can't get the calendar file (local.sqlite) to read. How can I get the file to read into the blank calendar? OR will I have to begin filling in a new calendar?

I can't delete emails, or at least I can only delete one after starting thunderbird, all subsequent attempts do nothing, with no obvious error messages. I have tried deleting the trash folders to no avail. This is a new migration from another machine, not sure when the problem started, possibly immediately but went unnoticed? Failing an easier answer I could simply uninstall and migrate the profile again from the other machine.

1. Using Thunderbird (143.0.1) on a Mac (Sequoia 15.7) that has text replacements doesn't work. Mac text replacements ordinarily are filled In when the space bar is pressed, but in Thunderbird the replacements are filled in regardless, so, for instance, I have the text replacement "tr" -- when I press those letters followed by a space it ordinarily expands to the word "there". In Thunderbird every time I type those two letters, even if they are followed by other letters, it expands.

So if I type "trunk" It looks good until I hit a space, when it expands to "thereunk". This happens whether I type the word or use speech input (Talon). I use a lot of text replacements for common words, so this happens frequently, making it unusable.

I'm a longtime Thunderbird user just now switching to a Mac. I'm hoping for a fix so I can use text replacements in Thunderbird, but a short term workaround would be the ability to turn text replacements off through the edit\substitutions menu (like other programs including Notes).

Thanks for listening. And thanks for doing all the good work — it’s a terrific program!

That ACTUAL email was a SINGLE email, in a lot of emails that have been going backwards and forwards, between myself an another.

I clicked on THAT email, to open ONLY IT, and not to see a conversation of some 10 other emails.

I also see INCOMING / OUTGOING and "IMPORTANT"

How do I get Thunderbird, to ONLY OPEN the email, that was shown to contain the search term AND to HIDE the "Important" classification of some emails..... It's simply duplication that adds more clutter to the seaches.

I'd like to have this as a global setting.

Thanks in advance.

I have been using thunderbird for more than a month and the widget has been reflecting the inbox accurately until today. The widget no longer synchronises with my accounts and just shows the state of the inbox several hours ago (currently 4). The only fix seems to be too delete the widget and restart it. I can find nothing about this searching the net. Phil

Hi,

I'm having problems setting up my email account in Thunderbird following my ISP updating to Microsoft 365 and Exchange.

3 of the 4 email accounts I wanted to set up are running fine, however one of them doesn't show any of my existing emails.

michael@jarvisdooney.com is the account I'm trying to set up.

Let me know what information you need me to provide in order for me to reset whatever is in the ISPDB so I can enter my credentials again and get my account working properly.

I can access it through Outlook Online and on my iPhone using the Mail app.

Thanks, Michael Dooney

I am using Thunderbird as my email handler. I have (at the moment) two email addresses. One with SFR and one with Cegetel, both are French providers.

Almost every incoming message to my SFR address is instantly dropped into the Deleted box. Knowing this to be incorrect sorting 99% of the time I always look in the Deleted box to see if it is a genuine message that I want to read. Although this isn't the end of the world, I still get to see the message. What is worrying me is that when I open the Deleted box to see the contents they disappear. They are deleted from the box before I can make the final decision.

Is there any way I can stop Thunderbird from doing this "pre-filtering" or at least stop it deleting the contents of the Deleted box?

Salutations.

Thunderbird version: 140.1.1esr (aarch64) MacOS 15.6

After the most recent Thunderbird update, I noticed that one of my local folders was completely empty. When I do a search for an email that was in that folder, the email shows as a search result, but when I click on the search result, it opens a new tab and says 'no message found' - although a preview of the email is visible in the search results.

I have tried restoring a backup of the local folders from my Time Machine backup, and while restoring those files did wind back all the other local folders and emails, it did not restore any emails into the problematic folder, even going back to my oldest time machine backup on the 26th of May this year - when I know the emails were still accessible - didn't help.

It's clear that the emails are still there, in some form, since the search function can sort of find them, however there is an issue retrieving and viewing them.

I am hoping someone can help! Thank you in advance, Claire.

I am using Thunderbird version 128.14.0esr (64-bit) on a Linux system to access email via IMAP/SMTP and it works just fine. Since Thunderbird doesn't seem to support Exchange calendars (as also per https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/microsoft-oauth-authentication-and-thunderbird-202) I would like to integrate Nextcloud calendars. I have followed the official Nextcloud guide for Thunderbird calendar integration, but it is not working. I suspect it is due to the federation, since Thunderbird "Add a calendar" return me a "You credentials have not been accepted". My question is: does Thunderbird’s "Add a calendar" feature support in some way calendar access with OpenID Connect or OAuth2 federation authentication methods? (or there is a way to configure Thunderbird to do so with calendars?)

Since February this year, I cannot send any emails from my Thunderbird account which has an optus.net.com account. I receive the emails but when I try to send an email, a box appears with the message 'failed. Recipient address rejected due to domain discourages use of this host.'

I can send emails with optus address on my phone and other devices, but not using Thunderbird on my PC. I have contacted Aussie broadband which are my server provider who believe the issue is with Thunderbird. I have also contacted Optus who agreed that the issue is with Thunderbird.

I can send emails from Thunderbird which use aussiebb.com.au. I was able to send emails from optus.net.com prior to Feb 2025. I would appreciate talking to someone to help me solve this issue. Thanks, Louise.

I have a Gmail account I'm using IMAP with. I have it running on 3 different computers (all the same version: 140.3.0esr (64-bit)) , and 2 of them have the folder structure correct. However, on one of them the actual Gmail folders I'm subscribing to -- Drafts, Sent Mail, Spam, etc. -- are ABOVE the Inbox and its subfolders, and I can't get them to move below it. I've tried dragging and dropping, deleting the MSF files, even deleting and readding the account. Nothing works. And, again, it's not all three instances doing it; just one.

Any ideas would be welcome!
