I don't see the pictures in Thunderbird
Hello,
Today I opened Thunderbid 24.4.0 and I couldn't see the pictures in emails anymore. For example the logo of websites, companies, ... Instead I have <http://dx.com> for example.
Thank you for your help

It sounds like you are discussing remote images.
Thunderbird by default does not display remote images. This is a security feature designed to protect your privacy. This protects your privacy because spammers can verify your email address by detecting if you viewed a remote image in a message from them. Its also possible to embed an executable (malware) in images.
Read more info about Remote content, how to enable it for specific contacts or as a one off. You can also disable this feature although it is not recommended and you do so understanding the risk.
Thank you for your answer.
When I got the email, I clicked on the pop-up that said "Show Remote Content", and the pictures appeared, and this with most of my emails, but today I can't see the pictures on none of my emails.
I just realised that even when I receive a new email I don't have the pictures, and the pop-up "Show Remote Content" doesn't appear anymore.
I've just checked on my 24.4.0 version. I selected to 'Show Remote contect' on a known good email. It showed the images. I then selected another email and reselected the remote images email. I could still see images. I then closed and reopened and can still see images in that email. The "Show Remote Content" doesn't appear, but as I was previously asked to show them, this is expected.
I have a Pop mail account, do you have a Pop or IMAP mail account?
Try this:
select an email which you know is good and you previously has selected to "Show Remote Content", but is currently not displaying the images.
- click on the FROM email address and select 'Add to Address Book'
- Then click on 'Address Book'
- select 'Personal Address Book'
- look for that email address contact which you just added.
- double click on the name to open for editing.
- At the bottom, put a check in the 'Allow Remote Content' box
- click on OK.
Close and reopen Thunderbird.
Then check to see if that email is now showing the remote content images.
I have a Pop mail account as well.
I tried what you said but it still doesn't show the pictures.
have you tried restarting your computer?
Even after a restart the problem is still here.
The problem is still here :/
Do you have the setting: View > Folders > All
In Tools > Options > Advanced > General tab
- click on 'Config Editor'
- it will tell you to be careful :)
- In the search type : remote
look for this line:
- mailnews.message_display.disable_remote_image; Value = true
- if the value is 'false' , double click on that line to toggle 'false' to 'true'
- close the window top right X
- click on ok to save options.
- Close and reopen Thunderbird.
What setting was in the Config editor?
did you need to change it and what happened after restarting thunderbird?
Do you have the setting: View > Folders > All : Yes
And the value of mailnews.message_display.disable_remote_image; is "true" already :/
I would be interested to see how it works out for you if you try the current beta from here http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/channel/ which completely changes the way remote images are handled.
One thing you must keep in mind is there are many reasons remote images do not display. We are talking so far about common reasons, but one that is often overlooked in anti virus and other security programs which either intentionally or unintentionally make viewing remote images either hit and miss or totally impossible.
Please before you do anything else try restarting Thunderbird with all add-ons disabled from the help menu. It may be as simple as an add-on or theme messing up.

Matt : I am on Debian, if I install it through the link you gave me, it will overwrite on my current installation ? I'd rather not.
I tried to disable my addons, it still doesn't work.
Toad-Hall : I changed in Original HTML and it works ! Thank you a lot for your help. :)
And thanks to everyone that tried to help me. :)
Hi, I have had the same problem & tried all solutions above without success.
Have just opened Thunderbird using 'Run as Administrator' - problem solved!
Sorry the above didn't resolve issue. Windows 7 doesn't display pictures but Windows 8 does.
