Would latest update of Firefox 28.0 have removed the scanner portion of my HP printer?

I haven't used my scanner on my HP scanner/copier/printer for a few weeks. Since then I have had the last updates from Microsoft downloaded and a new version of Firefox 28.0 as well put on it. The printer/copier portion works fine so far. But when I went to open up the HP Solution Center where you initiate and do your scans from I get a Windows Installer box popping up and it looks like it's trying to find something. Then it says feature trying to use is on cd-rom or other removable disk that is not available. Then a Status box pops up saying insert status disk and click okay. Then something else pops up saying installation package for the product status can't be found. Try using valid copy of installation package status.msi. Of course between all that it had a feature to browse through my computer popping up and I am not techy. I know my way around to a certain degree and updating plug-ins but not this stuff. My cousin said he'd come down to look at it but I don't know when that will be. Wondered if this happened to anyone else. Funny thing is I just discovered I can still scan through my control panel using the scanning wizard. So my computer is recognizing the scanner to a degree. And even in the HP Solution Center I can get it to scan off and on. Problem is once those boxes pop up I can't shut down my computer the normal way. Have to push in my start button. What's also strange is I manually update my Firefox and sometimes I will see where it checks for compatability and will tell me when something will no longer work with that new update. This time I didn't see anything. So maybe it wasn't Firefox. Oh I did uninstall a program that had been on my computer for ages when I was given it but my cousin said that wouldn't have done anything. It was Microsoft Plus Photo Story 2 LE. I believe that is for people that put digital/camera things on their computer to use. Any thoughts on what's happened? Thanks!

No, installing and updating Firefox doesn't affect other software on your computer. Download and install the drivers and associated software for your device from the manufacturer's website.

Thanks! I do have the HP disc for the scanner/copier. If and when my cousin comes down he said he may have to re-install it. Though I still wonder what happened and if now it was because of those last updates for my XP from Microsoft. It worked fine over a week ago. And it still partially scans through the HP solution site or the control panel works well too. And still copies and prints. Which almost doesn't make sense as to why just the scanner is effected. But many thanks! Debbie
