Not sure what you need here. I have XP, but doubt you need that. Computer died the other night, and I'm in the process of reinstalling everything.

Sorry, you can't get rid of Tabs in Firefox. But you can hide the Tab bar when only one Tab is open with this extension.

Sry, thought the app was Tbird.

Thank you, Tadlew, for taking the time to reply. I'm afraid I wasn't very clear about what I needed, but it was the first time I posted on the support forum, and it seemed at first like I could only write something brief in the bar that was offered. I didn't realize I'd have more space to write about my problem until later in the process.
My problem is that I've never been a fan of tabs, but Mozilla automatically (I suppose by default) opens with tabs. I was trying to find out how to change the default to not using tabs but to be able to open and close each window separately. I see from another question I asked about toolbars that you cannot delete the tabs toolbar, but I now seem to have found a way (totally accidentally, so I don't know how I did it) to not have each window appear in a string of tabs, but in separate windows that can be opened and closed individually.
