You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

I did like you advised and used the Microsoft Safety Scanner and it seems to have done the trick! I haven't seen any more annoying ads yet and I'm thinking I won't. Thanks so much for the great advice!
