Firefox doesn't bundle plugins, but you can download Pepper and Firefox should detect it.
I'm not sure how Firefox would resolve a conflict between Adobe and Pepper when you have both installed and they play the same media, but you can disable Adobe's plugin on the Add-ons page.
- Is this relevant to your distribution: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pepperflashplugin-nonfree
- Tools > Add-ons > in the left column click Plugins > set "Shockwave Flash" to "Never Activate"
Sorry, I think I missed something. If the pepper flash plugin is not a "Netscape-style" plugin compatible with Firefox, then it won't work and you will need to continue using Adobe's plugin.
There have been two requests filed in the bug tracking system to support pepper, but both times these were directed to the development mailing lists for further discussion and closed.
- 729481 – Support the "Pepper" Plugin api (closed 2012)
- 835018 – Please add support for the pepper plugin api so that we can use flash on linux (closed 2013)
There's no point commenting on closed bugs, but it might be worth tracking down those mailing lists to see whether anyone is actively working on it.
