My plugins advise that Adobe Acrobat needs to be updated; however, when I try to update, I receive a message saying "already installed."
I do not know what version I have, nor do I know how to find out. I do not understand any of the technical language used in the solutions already given for this problem. I try to update but it won't let me! I do restart Firefox but the red UPDATE NOW notation remains on my plugin status page.

I give up - where it says my plugins need updating, it's listed as Adobe Acrobat, but when I save it to my downloads & click to run the program, it says Adobe Reader! And as my Adobe is the 10.1.9 version, I'm just going to leave it alone & ignore the update notice. Thanx for trying to help!

Could you try the following? It shouldn't take more than a few minutes.
# Right-click either of the following links, choose Save Link As, and save the file to your desktop:
Direct links to AdbeRdr11006_en_US.exe removed - see Mozilla Support rules and guidelines. You can download the Reader XI installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/ for Windows 7; it should install fine on Vista. Ref: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4822684 aw.
- Exit all applications.
- Click the Windows logo orb on the taskbar and choose Control Panel.
- Click the Programs link, then Programs and Features.
- Select "Adobe Reader" then choose Uninstall.
- Once the uninstallation is complete, double-click the file you downloaded in the first step to start the installation.

The system requirements say Windows XP SP3 or later is needed. I've tested this and experienced no issues (see attached screenshot).

hey Gingerbread Man, this doesn't contradict the information i was giving - adobe is making acrobat reader 11 available to windows xp/7/8, but not for vista (which also isn't listed as supported in the system requirements that you have linked to). the last version provided to vista users at http://get.adobe.com/reader/otherversions/ is acrobat reader 10, which is flagged as outdated by firefox.
My point was that since it works under Windows XP and Windows 7, it should work under Windows Vista as well. I see no issues with it in Vista: see the attached screenshot.
It's definitely true that the latest version of Adobe Reader is not offered on adobe.com when Vista is selected as the operating system, and it's not listed in the system requirements. That's why I posted the direct download links above.
Adobe Reader XI is not officially supported on Windows Vista but can still be installed. There's information about this on Adobe's forum:
- http://forums.adobe.com/message/4822684 Reader XI not available for Windows Vista. Why?
This is very helpful, thank you. Could you also assist with a direct link to update Adobe Flash Player?
AletiaO, A direct link to download the latest version of Adobe Flash Player for Windows is included in this article, at the end of the Updating Flash section:
