I am looking for support migrating Eudora 6.2.4 to Thunderbird
I have been hanging on to an antiquated Eudora email program (6.2.4) for far too long because I did not know how to migrate it, all of the settings, address book, filters, folders, etc. to Thunderbird. As a result I'm still running Mac OS 10.4.11. I am looking for support making the transition.

As far as i understand the process (I have not used Eudora for more than 20 years) import takes a few minutes not days. Also as I understand it if there is anything corrupt in the Eudora files all bets are off. It is something of a fragile process I think is the implication
Please see this. While it is ancient information, it is still relevant because Eudora import really has not improved. Perhaps EudoraRescue will work for you.

well you have waited to long for current versions, so your going to have to install an old version and then upgrade it as some of the Eudora stuff is missing from current versions.
Start with V3, as that was the last major profile shake up and a good starting point to upgrade to and from as it was the basis of eudora OSE.
I have some instructions on the FTP site here
Once the import has completed and your happy with things upgrade to the latest version by downloading it and simply running the installer.
Hey Matt, thanks. I am in the process of trying to upgrade to Thunderbird 3.1, but it's not going well. My mail won't migrate, and my address book had a number of fields jumbled or missing. I haven't even tried to get my filters over yet. Any thoughts?
Lets start at the beginning..... has Eudora become troublesome? The import process actually requires things to be working nicely. It can not import files that are not exactly right.
but you will need to be specific, don't tell me things were jumbled. tell me exactly what was wrong and why. My last person use of Eudora was about V1.2 around 20 years ago, ( It was the newest shareware release by a student who used it for his PHD project. So I am not a Eudora expert. Most of what i know has been gleaned from other having problems

No, Eudora hasn't become troublesome, in general I like it just fine, but perhaps I've just grown accustomed to what others would consider troublesome. I'm converting to Thunderbird primarily because I need a later OS to operate other web design programs.
I tried to import everything from Eudora 6.2.4 to Thunderbird 3.1, but:
- the mail & folders didn't make it over
- I lost some of the fields in the old address book
Many thanks, Tad
p.s. By "didn't make it over" I mean that Thunderbird is still chugging, 8 hours later. I expect it's hung up somehow, but I've been using Eudora for ~20 years, and there're a lot of old, stored emails in my volumes of folders so maybe it's just taking its time.
Tad, did it ever catch up and complete?
Hey Matt, I eventually got some help from a local Thunderbird user and out local Time Bank, downloaded a program called Eudora Mailbox Cleaner, and after a weekend of stumbling around got everything converted except the filters. What a process! It's taken me 10 years to make this conversion, but now I'm happily in Thunderbird land. I do miss some of the Eudora functionality, but I have yet to upgrade to the later versions of TBird, so we'll see. Thanks for your support, Tad
Pleased you got there in the end.... The end of Eudora was not pleasant for anyone really.
Now some of your "missing features" will be available as add-ons, but if you would like to post some of them i will save you looking time on some at least.
"but if you would like to post some of them i will save you looking time on some at least."
Sorry, Matt, I don't know what this means.
Tad
tell the features missing and I will tell you what add-ons I know of to fill the gaps.
How long does the import take? I've got a blank popup box showing. Did this once before, and after a long time still a blank box, so I hit CANCEL. I saw my Eudora folder in the left hand side, but now I discover that the folders exist but they are all empty.
I think this feature needs a progress indicator.
